General Information 

Important Points

To apply for Passport Services at the Mission/Consulate in Germany it is necessary to fill up the application online.

The Online application form is available at http://passport.gov.in/nri/

All Passports will be issued only after verifying credentials of the applicants.

Consular surcharge of Euro 2.00 shall be levied on all consular services.

Note: Passport can be re-issued one year before expiry of current passport.

PROCEDURE AND DOCUMENTATION FOR PASSPORT SERVICES:

1. Re-issue of passport on EXPIRATION OF VALIDITY

Prescribed Application form.

4 recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.

Original Passport with copy of same, copy of residence permit.

Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).

Normal passport Fee - EUR 62 (Euro 60 + Euro 2)

Jumbo passport Fee- EUR 77 (Euro 75 + Euro 2)

2. Re-issue of passport due to EXHAUSTION OF PAGES

Overview of passport application procedure :

Register and fill the passport application form online at https://passport.gov.in/nri/

(Chose Online Registration, choose Germany-Frankfurt in the list)
(Choose "Re-issue of Passport" option)

Thereafter, print the form, fill the rest of the columns by hand and sign the form.

Passport applications of minors should be signed by both parents.

Documents required :

Prescribed Application form.

2 recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm without border and showing a full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.

Original passport

Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency)

Self Attested copy of passport (laminated pages)

Copy of valid visa/ residence permit

Note:

If there are any changes/additions to the existing details on the passport, please submit supporting documents.

Passport applications of minors should be accompanied by passport copies of parents, their resident permit/visa copies and Meldebescheinigung.

Fee - EUR 62/- Payable in cash at the Consulate. (Fees for minors will be less)

The completed application form with supporting documents and fees can be submitted in person at the Consulate on any working day between 0930-1130 hrs. The address of the Consulate is :

If all documents are complete, it takes around three to four weeks for issue of a new passport.

3. DAMAGED PASSPORT

Overview of passport application procedure :

Register and fill the passport application form online at https://passport.gov.in/nri/

(Choose "New passport in lieu of damaged/lost passport" in the service desired column)

Thereafter, print the form, fill the rest of the columns by hand and sign the form.

(Passport applications of minors should be signed by both parents.)

Documents required :

Prescribed Application form.

2 recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm without border and showing full frontal view of the
person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.

Damaged passport

Affidavit for damaged passport

Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residence)

Self Attested copy of passport (laminated pages) if damaged passport is still legible

Copy of valid visa / residence permit

Fee - EUR 124/- Payable in cash at the Consulate.

5. Passport for CHILDREN BELOW 18 YEARS OF AGE

Overview of passport application procedure for minors:

Register and fill the passport application form online at https://passport.gov.in/nri/

(Chose Online Registration, choose Germay-Frankfurt in the list)
(Choose "Re-issue of Passport" option)

Thereafter, print the form, fill the rest of the columns by hand and sign the form.

Passport applications of minors should be signed by both parents or attested affidavit in Annexure-H format.

Documents required :

Prescribed Application form.

Original passport

Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency) issued by City authorities

Self Attested copy of passport (laminated pages)

Copy of valid visa/ residence permit

a letter from the educational institution/hostel authorities/local guardian certifying the student’s study/stay should be furnished in addition to e normal documentation.

Affidavit signed by both parents (Annexure-H)

Passport copies of parents and their residence permit/visa if they are staying in Germany

6. Passport for CHILDREN BETWEEN 15-18 YEARS OF AGE

Same requirements as above.

Note: The passport will be valid for ten years.

Fee - EUR 62 (Euro 60 + Euro 2)

7. Passport to a NEW BORN CHILD

Congratulations on the birth of your child !

First, please get a birth certificate from the German authorities.

I. Registration of birth

Fill the online form for registration of birth of a minor child at an Indian Consulate under section 4(1) of the citizenship act, 1955 using the link below.

Click on the option (Registration of birth).

(Before you start, make sure you have the following files; try using Internet Explorer and make sure pop-ups are enabled :

Photo of child in JPG format less than 20KB in size;

Scanned signatures of both parents in JPG format less than 20 KB in size;

Scanned copy of birth certificate of child in PDF format less than 1 MB in size;

Scanned copies of passport of both parents (total 4 pages) in PDF format less than 1 MB in size;

Scanned copy of marriage certificate of parents in PDF format less than 1 MB in size.)

Please make sure that you upload all required documents such as birth certificate, passport copies (i.e pages containing details / address) of both parents and marriage certificate.


If documents are not uploaded correctly, the form will be rejected and the applicant has to fill it again.

Then Print the form out, which is to be signed by both parents before submission at the Consulate with fees / copies of uploaded documents. This can be done on any working day between 0930-1130 hours.
An appointment is not required.

It is required for the child to be present for registration of birth / for applying new passport.

If the child is unable to travel, please note that the birth can be registered within one year from the date of birth of child and registration can be carried out when the child is fit to travel.

If both parents are unable to accompany the child, then one parent can bring the child alongwith the passports of both parents. The registration form should be signed by both parents.

II. Passport application.

All forms must be signed by both parents.

Required:
1. Prescribed Application form (apply online, print & submit).

2. Left Thumb impression (male child) / Right Thumb impression (female child) in the signature box.
3. Four recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm without border and showing full frontal view of the child's head and shoulders having a white or light colored background with eyes open.
4. Birth certificate in original from the local German authorities along with its copy.
5. Self attested marriage certificate of parents.
6. Original passports of parents along with its copies.
7. Copies of valid visa/residence permit of parents
8. Letter from German authorities confirming that the child has not been issued any travel document / passport by them.
(There is no set format. A letter from local Auslanderbehoerde will suffice. However, if such a document is not available, a declaration from both parents that the child neither possesses any travel document issued by German authorities nor has one been applied for will suffice)
9. Meldebescheinigung of child also if possible, otherwise that of parents will suffice (Proof of residency).

Fee - EUR 42 (Euro 40+ Eur 2) + EUR 27, 00 (Eur 25.00+ Eur 2.00) for Birth Certificate
In addition, EUR 12.00 will be charged for the affidavit.

Originals documents will be returned after verification at the time of submission of forms.
Both Birth Registration and Passport application form can be submitted together.
The Consulate will first register the birth and then process the passport application.

 

8. Replacement of booklet due to CHANGE IN APPEARANCE

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 4 recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm withoutborder and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Original passport.
  • Affidavit.
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).
  • Copy of Residence permit.
  • A fresh passport will be issued. Applicant has to apply in person as he is required to sign the affidavit in front of consular officer.
  • Normal passport Fee - EUR 62.00 (Euro 60.00 + Euro 2.00)
  • Jumbo passport- EUR 77.00 (Euro 75.00 + Euro 2.00)
  • In addition, EUR12.00 will be charged for the affidavit.

9. Replacement of passport due to CHANGE OF NAME after marriage, remarriage or divorce.

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 4 recent passport photographs measuring 50x50 mm without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light colored background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Original passport.
  • Attested copies of marriage certificate.
  • Affidavit duly signed by husband and wife (Hindu marriage act).
  • A joint marriage photograph of both husband and wife in case marriage certificate is not attested.
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).
  • Copy of Residence permit.
  • Divorcees should apply with attested divorce papers if the divorce took place in India.
  • Applicant has to apply in person as he is required to sign the affidavit in front of consular officer.
  • Normal passport Fee - EUR 62.00 (Euro 60.00 + Euro 2.00)
  • Jumbo passport- EUR 77.00 (Euro 75.00 + Euro 2.00)
  • In addition, EUR12.00 will be charged for each affidavit.
