'Make in India' initiatives

As part of the Consulate's effort to promote the 'Make in India' initiative and to deepen CGI Frankfurt's economic engagement in the region of Hessen and Nordrhein Westfalen, Consul General undertook visits to four companies and a university with a specialised focus on dual education system.CG met Prof. Dr. Matthias Willems, President of the The Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences in Giessen. The university, founded in 1971, is the second oldest higher technical educational institution in Hessen with its core strength in dual education, a very vital sector from the Indian context.CG met Mr. Georg Müller, CFO and Mr. Michael Wilkop, Marketing Manager EMEA of Brenntag, a chemical distribution company founded in 1874 in Berlin,currently the global market leader in full-line chemical distribution. The company is headquartered in Mülheim an der Ruhr, in the State of Northrhine Westphalia and has operations in more than 550 locations in 74 countries worldwide with a global turnover of €10.5 Bn in 2016. Additionally, CG visited the company Siegenia, a family owned Small and Medium Enterprise comprising of around 2800 employees, which specialises in the production and supply of comprehensive portfolio of products and systems. Consul General also visited, Zwilling J.A.Henckels in Solingen, the largest and oldest manufacturers of kitchen knives, scissors, cookware and flatware. In CG's discussions with the CEO, Dr. Erich Schiffers, it was mentioned that the company produces products for their brand ‘Tweezerman’ for the American market in India and that that the company has launched a new joint venture ‘Zwilling India Private Ltd’, a production facility in the city Swarnabhoomi, near Chennai.In the last leg of his tour, Consul General visited the company Freudenberg, a diversified technology company with a very broad product spectrum, ranging from seals and nonwovens to household products, lubricants and IT services. Their products are always indispensable which include household products, including famous brands such as Vileda and, O-Cedar, which are marketed directly to consumers. The company has a sales turnover of around €200 million in India in 2016 and is based in 32 locations in the country. The visits were held on 29th-30th March 2017
